Depart Canada arriving in Iceland on May 31 . After a few exciting days of volcanoes and lagoons in Iceland we are off to Oslo on June 4. Here we have a day to get acquainted with Oslo's wonderful attractions before heading for the spectacular fjords and glaciers. Overnights are in Voss, Bergen, Loen, Molde and Oppdal, before returning through Lillehammer and Oslo.

Join us for a fun-filled day with historical narration on the houseboat from the Sandy Shores Resort Marina adjacent to the Gardiner Dam Pavillion.
Hear the history of the mighty South Saskatchewan River as we sail along on the houseboat past the traditional hunting ground of many indigenous people. When food became scarce, battles began but ended tragically. There are 4 major battle sites documented by explorers in their journal entries and identified by archaeologists.
Then came the colourful cowboys, the ranchers and the sod busters. They were tough to survive the prairie fires, the howling blizzards and much more.
The little communities of Merrill, Moon Lake and others are all but gone today. But the history of this area lives on as we revisit some of the colourful characters. Many were instrumental in building these vibrant communities.
Today we see businesses along Valley Road and hear the stories of the land as we enjoy a fun filled day just minutes from Saskatoon.

The local indigenous history was once all but lost. Today we have saved versions from explorers, local historians and native elders with their oral history.
Hear of the sacred rock and the visionaries who tried to save it.
With the help of the explorers' journals we can relive life on the prairie. Hear some of the culture--painting up before crossing the River to fight, how the tribe survived with the loss of so many warriors after battles, and how the women coped with their heavy work load.
We begin to see how the battles in this area led to Canada's last Indian War further west along this mighty River.
Stand on land that became part of the Treaty 6 before the railway and the pioneers of yesteryear and today who responsibly produce food for the world.
Although gone today, we pass through Gumbo Flat on the south shore of Luck Lake where Cree people prepared to fight the Blackfoot tribes across the River.
As the pioneers came they struggled to haul wood and pile it for the coming winter.

Hear the triumphs and tragedies of those early people before and after the explorers, and the connection to the very early ranches in the West.
Small communities have disappeared but their rich history remains through wonderful pioneer stories and oral history.
End with a wonderful afternoon at the welcome Lucky Lake Museum.

Arrive at Deer Lake Airport to start your Medicine Horse Tour. A motor coach picks you up at the gate and makes a short drive to Corner Brook to enjoy a Welcome Reception with your fellow guests before settling in for a comfortable sleep in this quaint English Hamlet.

A bus drive on the Viking Trail places us in Gros Morne National Park & UNESCO World Heritage Site, a delightful coastal “run” that separates the Appalachian Mountains from the brilliant waters of the Strait of Bell Isle. Continue to the National Historic site at Port au Choix for an interpretation of the Maritime Archaic people who lived here over 3000 years ago.

This is one of the most significant days on the tour, exploring the UNESCO World Heritage site settled by ‘Leif the Lucky’ and the Viking adventurers who settled here in the year 1000 AD.
This afternoon, we continue along the coast to St. Anthony and the hospital community established by the famous medical missionary, Sir Wilfred Grenfell.

Keep a sharp eye out for whales and other marine mammals as we embark on a quick ferry ride to the shores of Labrador. Here we visit a recently discovered Whaling Station used by the Basques people to render the oils that “Lit the lamps of Europe” in the early 1500’s. Later we visit the tallest lighthouse in the province at L'Anse Amour.

Take to the waters again as we maximize our wildlife viewing with a return ferry ride to Newfoundland. Continue exploring the majestic coastline of Western Newfoundland, stopping often to appreciate the many unique vistas, characters, and exhibits for which Newfoundland is so famous. Tonight, we’ll enjoy a traditional Newfoundland Dinner.

This day’s adventure is dedicated to Gros Morne National Park & UNESCO World Heritage Site; starting with an interpretive boat tour across the gentle waters of beautiful Bonne Bay. In Woody Point we’ll visit the park’s new Discovery Centre and view the famous Tableland Mountains. It is this area that earned the park its nickname as the 'Galapagos of Plate Tectonics'.

Bid farewell to the west coast as we take an easterly trek, to a new geological frontier. A perfect harbor provides a beautiful backdrop for an eventful morning of whale interpretation and brilliant art exhibits. This afternoon commemorates the survivors of the 9/11 Tragedy and the many acts of kindness extended when we welcomed the 'Come From Away' guests into the homes and communities surrounding Gander; the epicenter of the hit Broadway musical.

The "Road to the Isles" will take us across causeways spanning the many "Tickles and Runs" leading to Twillingate Island. This is a dedicated fishing community that exhibits great wealth and culture and features spectacular cliff sides and coastal views. Later we’ll wind through the beautiful forests and waterways of Newfoundland’s first National Park, Terra Nova.

A true day of discovery starts in the historic village of Trinity, one of the oldest, perfectly restored towns in North America. Later we’ll celebrate the beginning of European history, walking the same cliffs as John Cabot when he claimed “Buenavista” for King Henry in 1497. Spend a relaxing afternoon walking the seashore, engaging the locals, or touring the many historic premises for an opportunity to truly understand the inshore fishing techniques that have allowed Newfoundlanders to thrive for hundreds of years.

Natural wonders abound on this morning’s boat trip to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve to views Atlantic Puffins, Murres and the millions of seabirds that nest on these coastal islands. This is a favorite feeding ground for Humpback, Minke, and Fin whales where frequent and multiple sightings are a definite possibility. Visit Cape Spear National Historic Park, the most easterly point of land in North America, before heading into St. John's, the provincial capital and cultural showcase.

An historic tour of St. John’s will provide a brilliant interpretation of North America’s oldest city, and a proper orientation for your free time this afternoon. Visit Cabot Tower and Signal Hill to view the harbour’s "Narrows" and admire the architecture of old St. John's; including the famous ‘Jelly Bean Houses’. This afternoon is free to explore the many historic exhibits, walking trails and boutique shops and galleries that surround your hotel. This evening we share our Farewell Dinner.
